Nacho Sacaluga, Fernando Ávila

More than 40 years after the end of its last military dictatorship (1976-1983), a discovery has been made in the north of Argentina, in the province of Tucuman: the human remains of people who disappeared during those years are starting to emerge. La noche del mundo focuses on Pozo de Vargas, a clandestine common grave used for an unknown period of time, where more than 70 people were thrown, some of them even alive.

Nacho Sacaluga

Nacho Sacaluga is a journalist and the Director of the Mass Communications Area of the European University in Madrid (UEM), where he directed the official Master’s Degree in Digital Journalism and Social Networks and where he teaches courses related to these disciplines since 2006. He holds a PhD in Mass Communications and his research focuses mainly on Social and Audiovisual Communications and on New Media. His professional background includes television and documentary works. For almost two decades, he has written, directed and hosted several audiovisual formats in channels such as Telemadrid, LaOtra, Antena 3TV and Televisión Castilla León, among others. Also, he assumed the roles of scriptwriter and director of different documentary series, such as Exiliados or Primer Paso, for Telemadrid. Febrero. Cuando la vida es Carnaval was written and directed by him. With this film he won the National Prize in the International Documentary and Musical Movies Festival (In-Edit Beefeater 2009, Barcelona) and many other awards.


Fernando Ávila

Fernando Ávila works as a professor in the Faculty of Social and Communication Sciences of the European University in Madrid (UEM), where he teaches courses on production and audiovisual editing. He has directed several Master Degrees related to either photography or documentaries. He is currently collaborating as a professor in the Master’s Degree in Digital Journalism and Social Networks, the Master’s Degree in Motion Graphic UEM/CANAL PLUS and the official Master’s Degree in Mass Communications and Sportive Journalism Real Madrid/UEM. Many different documentaries and news reports have been edited by Fernando and for 15 years, he worked in several national and international television channels, performing roles such as producer, reporter and editor. Also, he worked as a special correspondent for more than 10 years, covering the news regarding the armed conflicts in Somalia, Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Kenya, Zaire or Russia, among many others. During that period, he interviewed world leaders such as Yasser Arafat, Fidel Castro, Simon Peres, George Bush, Bill Clinton, Mijail Gorbachov, Vladimir Putin, Jacques Chirac or Kofi Annan, to name just a few.
