He was born on March, 20th in 1965 in Lebrija (Sevilla, Andalucía, Spain).Benito Zambrano Tejero is a spanish director and screenwriter. He was born in Lebrija, a sevillianvillage and he moved to the Andalucian capital to study Dramatic Arts.Later, he travelled to Cuba and studied at the International School of Cinema and Television of SanAntonio de los Baños.At the beginning of 80's, he started to film short films. He made his debut in 1999 with the drama“Solas”, a film set in Sevilla about the solitude in old age and the family relationships. Thanks tothis film, he obtained a big international recognition for the experts owed to film festivals. The filmhad 11 nominations in the Goya Awards 2000 and it won 5 awards : Best Original Screenplay, BestNovel Direction, Best Revelation Actrees for Ana Fernández, Best Revelation Actor for CarlosÁlvarez-Novoa and Best Supporting Actress for María Galiana.In 2002, Zambrano directed the TV serie “Padre Coraje” for Antena 3 Television of Spain, wherethe actor Juan Diego performed a man that tries to look for justice for the muder of his son.The Andalucian director returned to the cinema with “Habana Blues” (2005), a film set in Cubawith the prominace of two young musicans of La Habana seeking to leave the Caribbean Island,looking for prosperity in Spain. This film was nominated for 4 categories in the Goya Awards, andwon the Best Edition and Best Original Music awards.Six years after, the director premiered “La Voz Dormida” (2011), based on the homonymous bookby the writer Dulce Chacón about the testimonies of republican women after the Spanish Civil War.With this film, he was nominated again to the Goya Awards with 9 nominations, including Best filmand director.
