My Mother’s Daughter
Carles Gómez Alemany
Marina, a young actress from Andalusia, discovers that her grandmother's Alzheimer's is already very advanced during a visit to her Catalan family. The situation worsens when she sees how lightly her mother and the rest of the family take the disease. Between the post-lunch coffee and Grandma's return to the residence, Marina will have to decide what role she plays within her estranged family and how close she wants her relationship with her mother to be.
Director’s Biofilmography 30/12/1993 - Carles Gómez Alemany received a Panasonic Mini DV camcorder as a Christmas present at the age of 11 and with it he made his first short film, which won him an award at the International Youth Film Festival of Valencia and from then on he never strayed from his cinematographic vocation.
Since then, he has been working on personal projects until he moved to Barcelona to study the Master's Degree in Directing at the Escola de Cinema de Barcelona (ECIB), where he was taught by directors such as Víctor Erice, Fernando León de Aranoa and José Luis Guerín.
The studies are combined and finally replaced by work in the directing department already in industrial projects such as the series El inocente (created by Oriol Paulo, 2021) and Feria: La luz más oscura (created by Carlos Montero and Agustín Martínez, 2022), followed by films with relevant filmmakers such as Modelo 77 (Alberto Rodríguez, 2022) and the future Ruta salvatge (Marc Recha, 2023) and Saben aquell que diu (David Trueba, 2023).
All the knowledge acquired in these pre-productions and shootings are the theoretical and practical basis to apply to his first professional short film, Ya no te veo (2021), which is selected for Goya qualifying festivals such as the Sant Joan d'Alacant Film Festival and the K-LIDOSCOPI Festival.
