Kings County

Kings County

Clémence Crépin Neel, Tania Gotesman
The story of young rappers from Bedstuy, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, known to have been both the epicenter of the crack epidemic in the United States and the birthplace of the greatest African-American hip-hop figures and rappers (Jay-Z, Lil Kim, Notorious BIG, Kanye West, etc.). These young rappers want to follow the footsteps of their elders and role models, trying to escape the violence of the streets, the guns, the arbitrary arrests, and the death of African Americans who now shout ""Black Lives Matter"". It is a film about a common impulse, which draws its strength from music, as the only way out. We follow Desiigner, who started from nothing, but recorded his music today on Kanye West's label. A dream come true for some. We also follow Mekado, Dydy, Nunu, McMiller... All of them meet and exchange around the music and the brutality of their own America, in a dilapidated apartment in the projects. A neighborhood left abandoned to its own demise, in the heart of Donald Trump's United States."
