Holy Matrimony?
Fatih Değirmen
Hasan arrives at his bride-to-be Ayşegül’s house for their Islamic marriage ceremony. Expecting to sit across from her, he is stunned when her brother Abdullah steps forward, declaring he holds her proxy. Forced to complete the ritual solely among men, Hasan finds himself entangled in an increasingly absurdist negotiation that lays bare the mechanics of patriarchal oppression.
Fatih Değirmen is a writer, director, and producer based in Türkiye. He holds an MA and a PhD in Cinema Studies.
