A mother accompanies her son to the bus stop. Like every morning, they have to take turns since from the seat you can't see the bus coming, and like every morning, they miss it and the boy arrives late to school.
At the age of 13 she debuted as an actress in Las palabras de Max, by Emilio Martínez Lázaro. She immediately began working as an assistant director. In 1987 she co-wrote and directed her first short film. From then on she began a brilliant career as a screenwriter and director in film and television with 9 feature films and 6 TV series, among other productions. Her first feature film, Una estación de paso (1992), was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Valladolid Film Week. Her next work, El último viaje de Robert Rylands (1996) was recognized with awards for best direction, best film, best cinematography, best editing and best music by the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos. For Cuando vuelvas a mi lado (1999) received a Goya Award for best cinematography. Héctor (2004) was also awarded Best Film at the Malaga Film Festival; Siete mesas de billar francés (2007) with ten Goya nominations (won 2) and 15 años y un día (2013) Golden Biznaga for Best Film at the Malaga Film Festival and the film chosen to represent Spain at the Oscars.
